Observation Narrative
This site is part of a series of meandering sloughs and backswamps in the Blackwater River floodplain opposite and just downstream of the mouth of Seacock Swamp. The forest here is dominated by good-sized Nyssa aquatica, with less Taxodium distichum and an understory consisting mostly of Fraxinus caroliniana. The stand is of mixed age classes (sizes), with the largest trees over 1 meter diameter. Saururus cernuus and draw-down species make up a rather open and patchy herb layer.
